Application of Precision Casting in Automotive Parts Manufacturing

Among the numerous products of automotive components, precision castings occupy a crucial proportion, such as engine cylinder blocks, cylinder heads, gearbox housings, intake manifolds, exhaust manifolds, crankshafts, camshafts, pistons, wheel hubs, and so on, all of which belong to casting products. However, compared with developed industries, the proportion of automotive casting products in China's total casting output is still insufficient. According to statistics, automotive castings in the United States account for 33% of the total casting production, while automotive castings in China account for less than 20% of the total casting production.

1、 The development of the automotive industry drives the rapid growth of the automotive casting industry

Automotive castings are one of the main downstream industries in China's automotive manufacturing industry. About 10.5% of the parts in a vehicle are iron castings and 6.4% are aluminum castings. These castings are not only large in quantity, but also have high quality requirements. With the continuous development of China's automobile manufacturing industry, the production of automobile castings has also increased. According to statistics, in 2009, China's automobile production and sales both exceeded 13.5 million, and the production of automobile castings reached 10.33 million tons. With China's automobile production reaching 15 million units in 2010, it is expected that the production of automobile castings will reach 11.48 million tons.

The rapid growth of automobile production is an important factor in stimulating the development of the manufacturing industry, and it will also provide a huge market space for China's automobile casting products. Moreover, with the development of lightweight and energy-saving automobiles, the market demand for automotive non-ferrous castings will further expand. Since 2000, China has consistently ranked first in the world in terms of casting production and has become a true major producer of castings.

2、 The export of automobile castings in China is in a downward trend

Although China is a globally renowned casting manufacturing country, it is still far from being a strong casting nation. The rapid growth of China's casting production is largely achieved at the cost of high energy consumption, high resource consumption, environmental pollution, and cheap labor.

In addition, the export situation of China's automotive casting products from 2006 to 2009 also shows that compared to rubber parts, stamping parts, fasteners and other products, China's automotive casting products are still in the low-end supply market and are greatly affected by market fluctuations. The 2008 financial crisis had a significant impact on the export of automotive casting products in China, resulting in a rapid decline trend. Therefore, compared with developed countries in the automotive manufacturing industry, there is still a significant gap in the manufacturing level and promotion application of light metal castings in China. 

3、 Entrusting procurement services to assist in the export of Chinese automotive castings

The decline in exports of automotive casting products is not only related to the low quality of castings manufactured in China, but also due to the excessive number of domestic automotive casting manufacturers, making it difficult for domestic and foreign buyers to find high-quality matching suppliers. According to statistics, there are currently about 26000 casting enterprises in China, which is a large number compared to developed countries. Moreover, most of them have low levels of specialization, intensification, labor productivity, and lack of specialized management and marketing capabilities, resulting in high-quality suppliers being submerged in the sea and buyers being unable to make the right choices.
